Hagar International

For many years now Swan Christian College Junior School has supported 'Hagar International' an organisation in Cambodia whose aim is to rescue women and children in Cambodia out of both force labour and sex trade and provide for them rehabilitation, education and employment opportunities. Through various fundraising endeavours Swan Christian College Junior School has been able to provide a computer lab for the students at the Hagar school and help with many other projects.

Cambodia Mission Trip 2010

From 28th June to the 11th of July Swan Christian College is conducting its first Mission Awareness Trip to Cambodia. The beauty of the Cambodian landscape, the mystique of Angkor Wat Temples and the welcoming smiles of the Cambodian people will make this trip an unforgettable experience.

The Cambodia Mission Awareness trip will give students the opportunity to engage in a wide range of mission experiences whilst being immersed in the rich culture of Cambodia. They will witness firsthand the tenacious character of Cambodian people who have lived in the aftermath of the Khmer Rouge and the destruction and poverty it left in its wake.

Organisations such as Hagar, Awareness Cambodia and Focus Cambodia will host us and provide mission opportunities for our team. Our students will work with schools, orphanages and slums both in the urban and rural settings. Many of the children we work with have been orphaned and some rescued from the most horrific circumstances. The team will share the message of God’s love with them through running games, teaching English, conducting feeding programs, bringing creative presentations, and possibly building projects.

Our desire is to create a deeper sense of empathy within the students who attend this trip so they can gain a richer understanding of the plight of others plus an appreciation for those who remain joyful despite their hardships.

The trip will also including other culturally enriching experiences such as museum tours, eating the local cuisine, perusing the markets for souvenirs as well as a couple of days in Siem Reab to explore the wonders of Angkor Wat.

The team from Swan Christian College will consist of four staff and approximately eighteen students. The students will be chosen from those who submit applications by the due date. Those who are not successful will be placed on a waiting list and may be included if other students withdraw from the trip.
